Questions about conditions and symptoms

Q:  What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic is a natural form of healthcare that has been around since 1895. Chiropractic is proven to relieve back pain, increase vitality, and promote well-being. As a result, chiropractic is considered the largest drugless and non-surgical health care profession in the United States. Ask Dr. Fialkov for more specific information about this growing profession.

Q:  How does chiropractic work?

A chiropractor detects issues within the nervous system and corrects misalignments in the spine by utilizing the chiropractic adjustment. A chiropractor is the only health care provider that adjusts specific areas of the spine called subluxations so that the nervous system can function the way it was intended to. Chiropractors, including Dr. Fialkov, believe the body has the ability to heal itself and that the nervous system is the master control of the entire body. Therefore, it is important to keep the nervous system functioning at 100 percent efficiency!

Q:  What is the chiropractic adjustment?

Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a hands on procedure that utilizes the refined skills developed during the intensive years of chiropractic education. (Dr. Fialkov is a Palmer graduate). The chiropractor typically uses his/her hands to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to reduce pain and inflammation and to increase mobility.

Q:  Are all patients adjusted the same way?

No, every patient requires their own custom treatment plan that best suits their condition, their age, their health history, and their activity levels. At Fialkov Chiropractic, we tailor our techniques to meet the patient's wellness needs. The patient should not have to adapt to our techniques!!! We offer a wide variety of techniques and services for a diverse patient pool.

Q:  Is Chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic Medicine is regarded as one of the most tolerable, non-invasive therapies available for many ailments, without drugs or surgery! Although chiropractic historically has a great safety record, no health treatment is 100 percent free of potential side effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. The majority of patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness or aching. Chiropractors have the lowest premiums for malpractice insurance, lower than just about every other kind of physician. This should tell you something!

Q:  Is Chiropractic care good for children?

Yes!! Children are very active and experience many types of Injuries from sports, falls, or other traumas. If your child complains of back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort, don't hesitate to make an appointment with Fialkov Chiropractic. We offer more gentle techniques for children such as Activator.

Q:  What causes the sound during an adjustment?

The sound is caused by gasses being released in the joint cavity. The joint is being pushed passed the normal range of motion and therefore releases gasses which cause the "popping sound." This a normal sound, and it in no way indicates a bone breaking.

Q:  Who needs chiropractic care?

Nerve interference can affect anyone, which is why EVERYONE needs chiropractic care. A qualified doctor of chiropractic will best determine who in your family needs care.

Q:  Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?

It is a common misconception that once you start going to a chiropractor, you have to continue to come the rest of your life. Most patients choose to keep coming!!!! If you are functioning better with chiropractic care, why would you want to discontinue care? Typically there are three phases of care that we recommend. They are acute, reconstructive, and wellness. Chiropractic is very front loaded and a patient needs to come to the office more when they are in a lot of pain. The next phase is a rehabilitative phase to get the patient stronger. Finally, we strive to maintain a high level of health in the wellness or maintenance phase of care.
